The Happy Tongue is by far the most successful Bombers Bits Design.

It is a solid mouthpiece uniquely ported to give maximum tongue relief and curved to be softer on the bars and slow in applying tongue pressure.

The Happy Tongue would be a good place to start if your horse is:

  • Shaking its head
  • Sticking its tongue out
  • Sucking its tongue back and as a result, making an intermittent coughing noise
  • Trying to put its tongue over the bit
  • Going behind the bit to avoid the contact
  • Snatching the reins forward and down

The rider will know immediately if this is the correct bit, as a horse with a sensitive tongue will finally begin to work into and accept the contact.

Key Features

The Eggbutt cheek piece prevents pinching of the lips and gives a solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower than the loose ring and also introduces light poll pressure.

The Happy Tongue is a solid mouthpiece uniquely ported to give maximum tongue relief. The standard Happy Tongue is curved to be softer on the bars and slow in applying tongue pressure.

Cheekpiece

The cheekpiece is available in 2 sizes, standard and a slightly smaller model for a pony.

Mouthpiece

This is by far our most successful design  –  we recommend for all young horses and those that show tongue sensitive signs. The 4 available ports have been scaled according to each width. This ensures accurate fitting over the bars and eliminates the rocking movement which occurs when the port is too wide. The Happy Tongue is also available as a straight mouthpiece which is slightly stronger.

NOTE: This style should sit snug on the horse, so the port does not move sideways. over the tongue and bars of the horse's mouth.

Nice bit

My young horse is now making steady relaxed contact using this bit. I was using a regular straight mouthpiece Mullen mouth eggbutt snaffle before. My horse didn’t hate it but I could tell it was too thick and I could see her putting her tongue against her bars. Using this bit I no longer see her tongue against her bars. Her neck and jaw including the hyoid area are more relaxed which tells me the straight mouthpiece on the previous bit was putting too much pressure on her tongue. She is happily stretching her neck forward and down to reach into contact. This is my first purchase from The Dapper Horse. I called with questions. The person who helped me was great. It’s rare to find this kind of customer service these days. I will continue to buy from The Dapper Horse based on this experience. Plus I like to support smaller businesses.

Only Bit I'll Buy!

This is the only bit I will buy now -- I'm currently in the process of moving all of my horses to this mouthpiece with different cheekpieces for different needs. The difference in my horse since switching to this is uncanny! She has always struggled with accepting contact and has naturally high carriage. We have done so much work on topline, teaching her to carry herself nicely, etc., but I still had issues with head tossing/mouth gaping/overall discomfort with any bit pressure. Since switching to this, that has completely dissipated and I finally feel like my work has paid off. The shape of this makes total sense to me and this is now the first bit I will always put my horses in!
